Remembering Costa Rica
When your spiritual journey brings you to certain lands
I was told that the Costa Rican cloud forests inspired the cinematic world of Avatar, their lush misty trees dripping moisture after tropical storms fertilize the land. It made perfect sense as I swam beneath pools of varying temperatures in the hot springs of La Fortuna — The Fortune — because its healing waters seeped past the surface of my skin, soothing my soul.
Though I only stayed one week, I yearn to fly back to Central America, where this blue zone offers a natural healing unlike any other place I’ve visited so far. Until then, I’m grateful to remember that such places exist outside the matrix of big cities where we can breathe fresher air, untouched by an overindustrialized metropolis. And so, I write about it; not only here but within the chapters of my next book, “Soul Gratification: A Latina Lightworker’s Journey,” coming in 2027.

It’s my third book, part memoir and part self-help. A story written for those who know on some deep level that there’s more to our existence than what meets the eye in this Earthbound reality. And when we get in touch with that larger part of ourselves, our soul’s calling reveals itself.
I never did Ayahuasca or took any plant medicine, but I admit that one night as I swayed back and forth on a hammock beneath the Costa Rican sunset, I heard the trees speak to me.
It was the farthest I’d ever traveled from home, so my body was like a newborn baby experiencing foreign territory. My senses were heightened, listening to the jungle with extreme attunement. If any animal were to surprise-attack me, I’d hear them beforehand. Not to think the worst, but I was just alert. And so when scanning my environment, I felt a strange presence; everything was alive — communicating — not just from birds flying overhead or lizards crawling on the ground, but from some invisible force that held it all in supreme balance.
Mother Nature.
God.
Great Spirit.
Whatever it was, I sensed a telepathic message trying to arrive on the winds whispering through bustling trees: This is what it means to be alive.
Although its message seemed simple enough, I never would’ve heard it behind the density of New York’s brick buildings and tall city skyscrapers. It’s literally the difference between trying to connect with source energy while riding the subway as opposed to sitting still in the middle of paradise — one is a portal rooted in angelic creations while the other is built from man-made rustic metals.
The truth is, being outside in one of Mother Earth’s most beautiful paradises is a much quicker way to access the divine. Of course, there are other places: Hawaii, Australia, Greece, Thailand, Bali, Japan, and more. We can find so many places around the world that are like “hot spots” or Vortexes, and when we do, we can feel the difference in opposing energies, knowing deep down that there is positive and negative — even good and evil. It’s a subject we might not particularly like to talk about, but when you begin to inch closer to the divine, you can’t deny its power to create and destroy, to give life and to take it away.
Tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tornadoes, to name a few. As beautiful as the jungle looks and feels with all of its natural remedies and shamanic medicine, it doesn’t cure without taking what it needs for itself. Despite having a peaceful experience in the jungles of Costa Rica, I could intuitively feel its invisible force — a fierce protection that should not be challenged nor taken for granted.
In my next book, I explain my thoughts about our cosmic origin and how Earth isn’t separate from it. How can it be? Mother Earth is spinning right now, and we are just passengers on her ship floating through space. Are we not? And when we are reminded of how small we are within the grand scheme of the universe, it will humble us in ways that will push us to fulfill our life’s purpose, because, to my understanding, no life is a waste when we’re all inhabiting a planet such as this one, collectively, traveling amid the stars.
